  • Why is it so important?

  • What most people get wrong about discipline

  • How to take action

My Goal with this Newsletter is to provide education on productivity, mental, and physical performance that will change your life.

This newsletter not only is a place of education but also, an opportunity to cultivate a fostering community of strong and ambitious young men so that we are able to help out one another in these times of weakness and comfort.

Because the hard times are coming soon.

I don’t know exactly when, but I assume that it will happen in our generation’s lifespan, like how the saying goes, easy times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.

Throughout these posts, I will be only talking about my stories and the mistakes/lessons that I’ve made along the way. So hopefully this will be a place where people can talk about their problems and uplift one another.

If that resonates with you, I’ll highly appreciate it if you subscribe to this newsletter so that you will be up to date with the latest information and get access to exclusive posts like this one, it’s a win-win for both of us.

I would not be in the position that I am today without discipline, so I thought that it would be fitting if we started with this first, because discipline is the foundation of self-improvement. You cannot accomplish anything without discipline first.

We will discuss about more advanced topics overtime, but this is just the fundamental principles that you help you reach success. Mastering the basics is most important.

Let’s begin!

What is discipline?

Discipline, in basic terms, is the act of doing something that is challenging, even when you don’t feel like doing it. Being discipline allows you to do the hard work regardless of what your emotions are telling right now. It makes you delay gratification and experience the pain right now, in exchange for your future self’s benefit. This concept of delayed vs. instant gratification will be very important in all of my future posts in this newsletter.

Some examples of discipline are,

  1. Going to the gym

  2. Studying

  3. Eating a clean diet

  4. Waking up early

  5. etc.

Pretty self-explanatory, all of these examples that I’ve listed is going to feel hard at the start, because your lizard brain is telling you not to do it, but you will feel a lot better afterwards in the end.

Why is discipline so important?

Now you might be wondering, why is discipline so important? Why can’t I just lounge around all day and be lazy? Well, you just answered your own question. Discipline is not only limited to the examples that I listed above, but discipline is needed in every single aspect of your life. Life as a man isn’t this fairytale like everyone wants you to believe. You're going to experience hard times, you’re going to experience failure, and if you ever want to reach to that point to where you want to be, then it’s going to require some blood, sweat, and tears to get there. Discipline is the action that is going to allow you to callous your mind. # David Goggins mindset

What most people get wrong about discipline.

Now, this is going to be the most important section in this post because there are a lot of misunderstandings of how to actually be discipline. This mistake set people back a long way and as a result, they never improve.

Here is what you can avoid,

  1. You can be only born with discipline

Now this sounds like an obvious mistake once you look at it face value, but a lot of people genuinely believe that they are unable to become disciplined because they didn’t have it at the start. They have these self-limiting beliefs in their mind because they don’t want to do something hard. “WEll aCtuAlly, I couLd nEver accomplish this because there is a genetic component to being discipline-,

you just need to destroy these self-beliefs that your parents or your teachers put onto you and think about it logically. Many people limit themselves to what they think they think that can only achieve so this causes them to stay stuck at the same place forever.

Now I can tell you all of this amazing information about how to be disciplined and like it’s so cool and stuff. But none of that matters if you're not in a state of discomfort right now, if you are not at rock bottom. Because if you do not have the desire to change your life right now, then you just won’t. I cannot force you to become disciplined, I can’t force you to do anything, I’m just here to guide you along the journey.

But like how the saying goes,

How to Take Action

So now you’ve learned a lot about discipline, what it is, the importance of discipline, and finding your desire to improve, now all you need to take action.

Here are the actionable steps to take:

  1. Treat discipline like a skill you have to level up, currently you are at a very low level in the discipline skill. Thus, you received the consequences of having a very low level, which is a lack in work ethic and laziness.

  2. In order to level up this skill, you have to find opportunities where your discipline skill is being challenged.

  3. The opportunity can range from a wide range of difficultly, but the main point is to be consistent in leveling up the skill. That means that you do not have to hike up a mountain every morning to improve your discipline, but rather find the opportunity that is still challenging but is relative to your level of discipline.

  4. Examples of this could be making your bed every morning, exercising for 15 minutes, or studying 15 minutes more than yesterday. It doesn’t matter what type of challenges that you conquer, but the main priority is just to keep the ball rolling. However, for most people and myself included, I found out that doing some type of physical training is the most effective way to level up your discipline skill.

  5. After you found your habit that will help you increase your discipline skill, progressively overload overtime so that your discipline skill will always level up continuously overtime.

So, when you have a hard assignment that you have to complete or an exercise regime that you hate to do, the barrier to entry will be significantly less compared to when you still had a low of discipline before, rinse and repeat. 😎👍
